The Department is responsible for mobilization of Cooperatives, registration, enlightenment, supervision, inquiry, auditing, arbitration, manpower development, liquidation and other related functions.
Cooperative Societies are well known for their significant contributions to the socio-economic and cultural developments of communities where they exist globally. In recognition to the indispensable role of Cooperatives, the Department of Cooperatives is saddled with the statutory role of formulating inclusive government polices and programmes as enshrined in the Nigeria Cooperative Societies Act 90 (2004) as amended.
STRUCTURE OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department has six (6) Units which comprises of the following:
- Registration/Processing Unit, headed by Mrs Gloria Akaba
- Audit and Inspection Unit, headed by Musa A. Ambi
- Research and Training Unit, headed by Dagusa J. Samuel
- Women in Cooperatives Unit, headed by Mrs Gloria Boyi
- Nasarawa state apex Unit, headed by Illiya M. Kuje
- Non-Governmental and Community Base organizations Unit, headed by Ismaila Mohammed
